The Coming Collision Between Autonomous Vehicles and the Liability System

This forward-looking law review article addresses inevitable implementation of autonomous vehicle technology and how it will conflict with legal liability when accidents happen. Primarily targeted at folks familiar with legal concepts, the article initially examines current autonomous systems (manufacturing robots, autonomous planes) to see who owns liability for at robotic malfunction. Further the article explains what elements are likely going to be used to determine where the fault lies and who is liable. Finally, there is a discussion on potential defenses to legally liability by lobbying for manufacturer friendly laws and basing a defense on long standing legal principles like 'assumption of the risk.' These vehicles are forecasted to decrease the number of accidents, but no one in this article suggesting they will eliminate them altogether. The question still remains who will ultimately bear liability, but this article gives us incite in to some very realistic possibilities. Cite: Gary E. Marchant and Rachel A. A Legal Perspective on Three Misconceptions in Vehicle Automation

This article discusses, as the title suggests, publicly held misconceptions about 'self-driving cars.' Walker addresses the perceptions that fully autonomous vehicles driving everywhere is an imminent reality, these autonomous vehicles are consumer ready, and that self-driving vehicles communicate with each other. Walker explores each concept by contradicting the point of view of experts in the field. However, Walker goes further in depth by showing how those expert opinions may be incomplete. The program is a confidential self-screening program that features a series of computer-based exercises that can be completed in 30 to 45 minutes and helps identify steps to reduce risk in several areas including: leg strength and general mobility, head and neck flexibility, high contrast visual acuity, low contrast visual acuity, working memory, visualizing missing information, visual information processing speed, and visual search.
